A Pregnant Mom Dos and Don’ts Guide to Spa Resorts

Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort

So, you’re a mom looking forward to a day at the spa, but here’s the twist: you’re pregnant. However, this should stop not you.

There are many benefits you will receive from going to the spa, making all the effort worth it. When you’re pregnant, all you have to do is to take care of yourself and your unborn baby. If you visit the spa regularly, you ease your pain, aches, stress, and tension, which all add up to a good night’s rest! If you feel a little less confident because of your pregnancy, it is normal.

Keep in mind, however, that there are a few dos and don’ts for pregnant moms at the spa:

The Dos:

1. Enjoy a Massage
Depending on how long you’ve been pregnant, a spa may not give you a massage. If you’re three months or more, then you’ll be able to receive treatment. You will surely feel great after having your sore back and ankles massaged.

2. Pamper Your Face
With hormones running wild during your pregnancy, your skin will start to glow from all the oils. If you don’t want your face to look glowy, get yourself a facial! It is an excellent and safe treatment to have when during your pregnancy. Keep in mind that your skin might be extra sensitive, so opt for organic and gentle products to help you.

3. Ask Questions
If you have any questions or concerns, don’t be afraid to ask your therapist. They will most likely answer any of your questions. After all, they are professionals. If you’re feeling discomfort or pain, tell them immediately.

4. Experiment with Aromatherapy
Some oils aren’t recommended during pregnancy, such as nutmeg, jasmine, and peppermint. However, you may find essential oils to be useful to help aches and even nausea. If you need something to calm you down, try Mandarin or Frankincense.

The Don’ts:

1. Avoid the Hot Tub, Sauna, or Jacuzzi
Raising your body temperature will affect the blood circulation of your baby. Avoid any spa activities or areas that are too hot for you.

2. Avoid Regular Pedicures and Manicures
Although enjoying a pedicure and manicure once in a while is acceptable, you shouldn’t do it regularly. These nail products contain chemicals that can be harmful to your baby. If you want to stay safe, ask your nail technician to use products that do not contain certain chemicals, such as formaldehyde and toluene.

3. Don’t Use Spray Tan
Fake tan uses a substance called DHA. While spraying, you may run the risk of accidentally inhaling some of it. Although there is no evidence of what impact it has on your baby, it is better to be safe than sorry.

4. Don’t Ignore Your Pains
You will face aches and pains as your belly starts to grow bigger and bigger. If your back hurts, your feet swell, or any pain begins to arise, book a massage. If you feel like you need to be pampered for the whole day, book one for a full day!

Remember, a spa day is not only for you but for your baby as well. Pregnancy is a time of aches and pains, and you certainly could use a day at the spa to relax and feel good.
